On 05.11.2025, the second meeting of the training initiative “Active Young Consumers”, part of the “Green Youth Academy” project, was held. After the initial training, which introduced the participants to the topic of reducing the use of single-use plastic, the young volunteers returned from their field assignment to conduct a field study of real practices in local shops, cafes and restaurants in Varna.
Their task was to observe how businesses in the city use plastic packaging and utensils, whether they offer sustainable alternatives and to what extent customers are informed about the opportunities for reducing waste. The volunteers had visited various retail outlets, talked to the staff and gathered different impressions.
During the meeting, the participants shared their observations and analyzed what good practices are already being implemented. Such as using cardboard cups, offering a discount for customers with personal utensils and recyclable packaging. At the same time, we also discussed the difficulties that still exist. The lack of affordable sustainable alternatives, insufficient awareness and the pursuit of the convenience of single use.
The meeting took place in an active and friendly atmosphere. Young people participated with genuine interest and showed that they are responsible and ready to work for positive change in their community.
In recognition of their efforts and dedication, all volunteers were awarded certificates of participation and contribution to the initiative.
