A specialist in international and European law from The Hague University won the challenge called #transformation of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development.
Natali Dimitrova sent us a family photo from the Sea Garden. “31 years ago, a young family visited Varna and put this photo in an album from an unforgettable summer, without suspecting that 20 years later, life would lead them there.”
Actually, these are Natali’s parents. At that time, they were living in Dimitrovgrad. Later, they moved to Novi Pazar, where her mother is from. “But they very rarely came to Varna. They never even imagined that life would turn out in such a way that they would end up moving here,” shares the young woman.
After graduating with a law degree in The Hague, Natali Dimitrova returned to Bulgaria and settled in Varna. Her parents did the same. This allowed her mother to fulfill a lifelong dream – to live by the sea. And because she is an agronomist, her professional curiosity also drew her to the Sea Garden and its vegetation.
According to Natali, the best way to protect the environment is by carrying bags to collect our waste during walks or beach visits. “Because it is difficult to rely on trash bins, which, even when available, are often overflowing. But that is no reason for us not to be responsible!”
The winner of the #transformation challenge received a “Green Beach Pack” – a branded eco-bag containing the book “I Breathe” with an autograph from the author, Doychin Karshovski, a logo T-shirt from our online store with a cause, and a limited-edition #FarFromTheConcreteCity postcard.
This year, Varna celebrates the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Central Sea Baths. Back in 1926, the seaside city officially transformed, stepping onto the European stage as a modern resort city. Our history inspires us, but the #transformation today depends on us—on how we keep our nature and heritage clean for those who come after us.
