ABOUT US

The Association “Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development” is a non-governmental organization working for public benefit since 1995.

Let’s make environmental protection a personal interest for everyone! This is the mission that has led the association for more than 25 years. It brought together hundreds of volunteers, partners, mission and project coordinators, friends and members of the organization over the years.

Thank you, friends! We have implemented more than 50 projects with you. We saved more than 16,000 trees from being cut down. We followed the authorities closely. And we celebrated even the smallest civic successes, such as the great victories of democracy. Because being an active citizen today is not just a challenge! Being an active citizen is a vocation!

Be active! Move the world!

#WHAT WE DO

#ABOUT ECOLOGY

WASTE

The goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development is the widest possible dissemination of the concept of zero waste on the territory of the whole country.

We are actively working in the direction of recycling the generated waste. Current campaigns we are developing are: separate collection and recycling of paper – “Leaf-by-Leaf”; recycling of glass perfume bottles and deodorant bottles – “Return the bottle, get a book” (Green Fridays), replacing plastic cups in kindergartens with reusable ones – “I choose the reusable cup”.

We have conducted information campaigns to reduce e-waste, as well as against hospital incinerators. We helped initiate the first local referendum in the country against the construction of an incinerator in the municipality of Kaspichan.

We have submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Water a petition against the import of waste for incineration and we continue to work in this area.

ECO CITY

The goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) is the balanced structure of urban areas – the creation of more recreation areas, green buildings, environmentally friendly transport, reduction of noise, fine dust particles, electromagnetic pollution. We have an equipped “Civil Ecolaboratory” which can measure parameters of the urban environment such as noise, fine dust particles, radiation levels and electromagnetic pollution.

We are working on the introduction of the concept of “Placemaking”. Creating a public space must be a joint process between citizens, experts and managers, through which we can shape our public areas to maximize their benefits.

ENERGY AND CLIMATE

The goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) is clean energy. We are for energy coming from renewable sources and against polluting thermal power plants and nuclear power plants. We implemented a demonstration project “Sunroof on my home” to promote the use of alternative energy sources by households. We continue to work to support small RES owners. We provide experience and advice in this area.

We run periodic information campaigns to reduce the effects of global warming.

RESOURCES

The biggest resource of Bulgaria, besides the people, is nature. Therefore, the goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) is to reduce pollution of air, water, soil, sea and to protect green areas, nature parks, Natura 2000 areas and biodiversity.

We carry out periodic information campaigns against building operations in protected areas, destruction of natural habitats and reduction of biological diversity. We provide legal advice and analysis in this area.

We are conducting an advocacy campaign for active use of municipal agricultural land by providing it to low-income and socially disadvantaged citizens.

FOOD AND HEALTH

“Who controls food, controls people too”
Henry Kissinger

The goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) is for more and more people to choose clean food – without GMOs and dangerous additives. We are fighting against multinational companies that use genetics to patent their food and conquer the world food market. We work to promote organic farming, slow food, composting, natural cosmetics and detergents.

Every year, at the end of August and the beginning of September, we organize Ecocamp “Ezerets” to promote a healthy lifestyle, ecological construction and clean food.

DEMOCRACY

The goal of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) is the introduction, promotion and preservation of democratic values in society. That is why we work to protect equality, freedom, justice, pluralism, tolerance, respect and participation.

Every year at the end of February we organize a civic forum, the Conference on Democracy, which aims to promote and support sustainable civic initiatives and to celebrate even the small victories of a democratic civil society.
