The Challenge

New environmental standards and innovative projects worldwide prove that industrial spaces can also generate significant additional benefits for the environment. Instead of driving away local wildlife, the construction of a solar park can create conditions that help wild animals live undisturbed and reproduce in the same area. In Bulgaria, however, investment intentions frequently bypass environmental standards and conflict with habitat development.

Our Actions

Starting in the autumn of 2026, over the course of a year, we will implement activities to explore how technology and wildlife can coexist in the same area.

We will install 55 animal and bird houses on the territory of REZOLV Energy’s “St. George” solar park. The park is located on an industrial site of a former civil-military airfield near the village of Polkovnik Lambrinovo, Silistra Municipality.

Digital Monitoring: To track the functionality of the installed houses and prove the effectiveness of the measures, 6 surveillance cameras will be installed to monitor in real time how the animals accept their new homes. The data results will be summarized and presented to the public.

Information Campaign: To ensure transparency, we will engage the local community and publish information about every step of the study. Part of the house installation activities will be carried out as a demonstration event jointly with students from a local school. Every stage of the process will be filmed and presented through an educational popular science film, which will be provided free of charge for the needs of educational programs in schools across the country.

An information sign about the biodiversity of the area will be installed in the project area.

Results

  1. Creation and demonstration of a sustainable approach to how modern energy and biodiversity conservation can go hand in hand.
  2. Creation and promotion of best practices in the management of industrial sites for the benefit of green energy and biodiversity restoration.
  3. Environmental education with field practice for the children from the Silistra region.
  4. Popular science film “Home for the Wild Neighbors” about the coexistence of people, animals, and modern technologies in the same area.
