Did you know that a bee produces one spoonful of honey in its entire life? Kalin and Rosen – two very curious kids from the Varna kindergarten ‘Jan Bibiyan’, who visited the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development, found out about this fact.

With great eagerness and interest they took part in the educational module ‘Get to know the bees’ as two researchers, who learned about the stages of the bee’s life and together learned the importance of protecting one of the most important creatures on our planet. After tracing every detail of its life cycle, they embarked on making candles out of pure beeswax. To complete their research mission, they watched the film ‘Life in a spoonful of honey’, which showed them in detail the work of an experienced beekeeper.

However, a dedicated mother was among us to make sure the children had an interesting and memorable day. ‘I decided that the afternoon was a good time for my children to learn something new,’ the parent told our team.

This week, the whole family will head to the village to plant plants that are good for bees – basil and lavender. If you too would like your children to follow Kalin and Rosen’s example – you can sign up for a visit to the Bee Garden here.

At the end of August we will also launch everyone’s favourite #EcampEzerets, close to the bee farm ‘The Garden of the Bees’, where the bee Deer will spend her summer holidays. There children and adults will have the opportunity to learn how to make a straw hive, participate in practical beekeeping activities and eco-building.
