Following an inspection by the Municipality, 32 trees were identified as posing a potential danger to the residents of the town. Each of the trees has been marked and the most dangerous ones are expected to be removed in two weeks, the local municipality said during a special briefing. The trees look apparently healthy, but on inspection with a special resistograph device that measures their quality, it turns out that some of them in the Town Garden and the surrounding area have cavities that predispose to spontaneous falls.

,,We have observed for some time that there is a fall of apparently healthy trees. This has led us to go in the direction of examining each of the trees very seriously with a resisterograph. The device showed that we have cavities that will predispose to spontaneous fall, warned the mayor of the district ,,Odessos” Yanislava Shopova.
To compensate for the lack, 96 new trees will be planted, the species will be adapted to urban conditions. They will be planted in place of the trees already removed in the City Garden and elsewhere in the Odessos district. This year, the budget has allocated BGN 5.5 million for landscaping, which includes mowing, timely crown lifting and preventive work to remove dry and potentially dangerous trees.
The trees are of marginal age and have identical diseases, such as various types of tree fungi, wood borers on the bark of the trunks and rotting processes, which are noticed after frequent inspections. Resistograph examination can be done within human height and it is almost impossible to examine the crowns because of their height, noted the chief expert on landscaping of the municipality, Marinella Marinova.
One of the problem trees is located on the largest playground in the area of the “Filial” stage in the city centre and poses a serious danger to children and visitors, according to municipal experts. It is planned to remove the most dangerous trees first, which are located in or near such enclosures. Initially, the branches of the trees will be removed and then their complete uprooting and planting of new ones will follow, the municipality said.
