The educational module “Get to Know Bees” begins its autumn tour of schools and kindergartens in Varna and Dobrich on November 7 (Friday). At 4 p.m. in the Kubrick Hall of the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (PCESD), a demonstration lesson will be held on the role of pollinating insects and beekeeping for biodiversity and the future of the Earth. Ecologist and beekeeper Elen Sabatini will present the life cycle of different species of bees in the hive, the organization and development of the bee colony and its seasonal cycle, the different types of bee products and hives, and the differences with the “wild” hive. Participants will see the most famous bee in Varna – Ellen (a huge three-dimensional model with moving parts, through which children and young people learn about the structure of bees).

Over 1,000 children from Varna and Dobrich have learned about the role of bees in our lives through OCOSUR’s “Get to Know Bees” educational module this year alone. In addition to a three-dimensional model of a bee, it also includes a life-size beehive with honeycombs on which there are interesting questions about bees. To step into the shoes of a beekeeper, during the lesson the children put on beekeeping suits and peek into the hive, using beekeeping tools.

Participation in the demonstration lesson on November 7 is free of charge, but prior registration is required here. The event is part of the “Green Youth Academy” of OCOSUR. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Municipality of Varna, activity
