On August 5, in front of the “Aquarium” Varna was held the next event of the “Green Fridays for Youth” – Civil Eco-Lab dedicated to testing the UV protection of sunglasses. The event was part of the Varna Sea Festival and attracted considerable interest among citizens.
From the early afternoon until the evening, the flow of people willing to check the quality of their sunglasses did not stop. The eco-lab offered free tests to show whether visitors’ glasses provided protection from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Ilian Iliev explained how to properly choose and use sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun, especially during the summer months with high temperatures and strong sun.
Visitors not only had the opportunity to test their sunglasses, but also to get useful information about the harms of UV rays and ways to protect themselves. They learned about the different types of UV rays (UVA and UVB) and their effects on the skin and eyes, the importance of wearing quality sunglasses with good UV protection, and the use of sunscreen and hats as additional protection measures.
The civic eco-lab in front of the Varna Aquarium showed that interest in people’s health and safety can be combined with enjoyable and educational outdoor events. We look forward to the next initiatives and opportunities to participate in such useful and interesting events.
