The Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development will send back home the radiant volunteer from Genova, Italy, Valentina Vagge on September 11th. For a year Valentina has been helping to implement a number of environmental activities in Varna. She is best known to the participants in the “Leaf by Leaf” separate paper collection campaign, helping to recycle paper from dozens of offices, institutions and schools in the city each week. Valentina was also an active participant in Ezerets eco-camps in 2019 and 2020. She helped exclusively for the translation and editing of information in the English version of the site ecovarna.info. She was always where we needed her. Thank you, Valentina, for your big heart!

From mid-October, the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development expects a new volunteer candidate from Italy. The volunteer must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and be willing to dedicate a year of his or her life to solving environmental problems, including adapting his or her own lifestyle and habits to more conscious environmental protection.

Each week, the volunteer will participate in the Leaf by Leaf paper and other waste recycling campaign. It will help the development of the civil eco-laboratory, which uses specialized equipment to measure the levels of noise, pollution, UV-radiation and maintains a register and statistics of these measurements.

During the winter and cool autumn and spring periods, the volunteer will support local initiatives in the urban space “Kubrik – a place for meetings and ideas.” The warm periods of the year will be dedicated to cleaning actions, eco-camps in Ezerets and traveling exhibitions and demonstration campaigns of the mobile eco-center.

The volunteer’s ongoing commitment during the project will be to write and maintain the English version of the organization’s website.

A partner of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development in Italy, which plays the role of a sending organization and is responsible for the preparation of the volunteer before his departure for Bulgaria, is the Association Joint. The mission of the organization is to provide opportunities for non-formal education of young people through international mobility.

The project “Urban Ecology”, for which we expect the new volunteer, is implemented with the support of the European Solidarity Corps.
