A station for measuring air pollution with fine dust particles was installed in the building of the Vasil Aprilov Primary School in Varna. It will monitor dust pollution levels in the area between Slivnitsa Boulevard, Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, Otets Paisiy Street, and Pirin Street. Air quality can be monitored online at Airbg.info, as the station is connected to the global system. The device was installed for educational purposes by experts from the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (PCESD). The device was installed for educational purposes by experts from the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (PCESD). It will help students monitor real-time environmental indicators that directly affect their health and lifestyle.
The study is part of the activities on the topic “Healthy Urban Environment for Living,” which Vasil Aprilov Primary School organizes jointly with OCESUR under the project “The Neighborhood – My Classroom.” Students from the school’s 6th grade class are included in these activities. Every week during class, they have theoretical and practical activities during which they study noise levels in the urban environment, GSM and UV radiation, air quality, waste collection, greening, and urban biodiversity. The package of educational activities is aimed at familiarizing young people with the main environmental areas and problems in the urban environment. The goal is to give a practical dimension to ecology and contemporary environmental issues.
The project “The Neighborhood – My Classroom” was created under the “Learning Together” program of the “Together in Class” Foundation and is implemented with the financial support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
