The “Return a bottle, take a book” campaign, which runs as part of Green Friday, will only accept clear glass bottles, with no metal or plastic parts on them. The perfume bottle can be painted, but it is important that the glass from which it is made is not colored, explained the glass processing plant in Beloslav. The paint on the transparent bottle, as well as the paper label, do not interfere with the recycling technology.

Most perfume bottles are usually made of clear glass and colored in a different color. They are suitable for processing. However, the medicine jars are most often made of brown glass. They cannot be recycled through the technology currently used at the Beloslav plant. Until now, they were accepted and used to produce waterproofing material, foam glass in the form of granules. Due to the Covid crisis the glass factory “Inhom” have suspended this type of activity indefinitely. The power for the production of the waterproofing material can work, but at larger volumes, explained the management of the enterprise.

The Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development handed over another 25 kg of transparent glass bottles for recycling on behalf of the participants in the “Return the bottle, take your book”. They will be used for the production of souvenirs and technical glass, from which protective lamps are currently made.

Inhom is also working on a new technology for the recovery of waste glass. When building the respective production line, they will turn again to the citizens for assistance in collecting another type of waste glass. So do not rush to throw the small glass bottles to the dump.

Thanks to all participants so far in the campaign! We keep on!
