Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development launches at the end of 2019 an initiative – Green Fridays! The best day on which the work week ends – do something cool, something “green”!

On our first Green Friday we announced “Return the bottle – get a book!” and this call has become a permanent initiative. We collect small glass bottles of cosmetics and medicines, which have so far ended their lives in the landfill. As a thank you, we give everyone who joins the campaign a second-hand book of their choice. The participant, in turn, leaves a lev for the List Fund, to which the old books are donated. The funds raised go to environmental education of young people.

Unnecessary packaging is processed from the glass factory in Beloslav using innovative technology to heat and noise insulation material.

Eco-workshops are the other focus during our Friday meetings with Varna residents. Cards from handy materials, plastic bottle birds feeder, drawings on old glass bottles… We recycle, learn about nature, make something out of nothing and have fun.

On the last green Friday in August and the first in September we are at an eco-camp in the Shabla village of Ezerets. For four days we live in the open air, in tents, build with clay and straw, cook in an oven and live according to the laws of nature.

And so we imperceptibly achieve the main goal with which we started “Green Fridays”: to support the youth environmental activity in Varna and for young people to learn more about environmental protection by applying environmental activities in their daily lives.

We are waiting for you every Friday between 9 am and 5 pm at 14 Sava Radulov Street in Varna! For conversation, meeting or discussion. Share an idea, initiative or problem. With glass bottle, paper, plastic or metal recycling bottle. Wishing to do something new from the old. Or just to meet. Welcome!

A challenge

It is necessary to develop the thinking and activity of young people in different green areas – business, civic, educational, political, as well as at different levels – civic actions, educational campaigns, business applications, policy change, innovation, home habits, etc.

Actions

We provide space – a shared meeting room and ideas “Kubrick”, where there is an opportunity for:

– meetings of different interest clubs;
– screening of educational films;
– conducting eco-workshops;
– discussions on current issues and planning of civil actions;
– initiating campaigns to attract youth activities, such as “Return the bottle – get a book!”;
– promotion of good environmental practices in the city, implemented by formal and informal youth groups and organizations.

Results

More committed to environmental issues, active citizens of Varna, knowing how to defend the causes they stand for and how to be more successful in solving environmental problems;

Opportunities for more meetings for exchange of knowledge and ideas;

More supported and realized youth eco-activities in Varna.
