The initiative of the Public Environmental Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD) will be presented by Sabina Maximova, Coordinator of the “I choose a reusable cup” mission. The invitation for the ceremony has been sent by the Embassy of France in Bulgaria, which is co-organizer of the Eco-Community 2019, together with the Ministries of Environment and Water, Regional Development and Public Works and Education and Science.

Why do I choose a reusable glass?

In most public kindergartens in Bulgaria drinking water is still given to children in disposable plastic cups. Every day in the 1894 kindergartens in Bulgaria 224 380 children are using more than 1 million cups. In one year the amount reach over 550 tonnes of non-recyclable waste! The single cup is used for only 2-3 seconds, after which it becomes a pollutant of water, air and soil for 300 to 500 years. This costs the taxpayer over BGN 6 million annually.

The purpose of the mission is to have every principal, teacher and parent of a child in kindergarten saying “I choose a reusable cup.”
