Every visitor to our last Green Friday in January will receive a special gift – a fir tree seedling. Come along on 31 January between 9am and 5.30pm with an empty perfume bottle and take your tree. You can plant it in your yard, in front of your block, or why not – in the woods.

Check out our newly planted fir tree in front of the office of the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development – on ul. “Sava Radulov” 14 in Varna!

Trees are living things and require attention. Here are some tips on how to take care of your fir tree:

Before you plant it, make a hole in the soil that is a little wider and a little deeper than its root system. Clean it well. Remove stones and provide loose soil underneath and on the sides to allow the roots to develop freely. You can put some peat or compost in the bottom of the hole, but if you don’t have any, it’s not fatal.

It is good to have a stable tree in the first year. It is therefore a good idea to drive a few stakes around it and secure the stem with ropes. Water the newly planted tree thoroughly. This will give it the moisture it needs, but will also seal the cavities in the soil. Water your fir tree regularly during the first year, especially on hot days, to help it grow healthy.

Why fir?

It’s a majestic tree that contributes not only to a more aesthetic urban appearance, but also to the better quality of the air we breathe. Fir plays an important role in retaining water in the soil and creates habitat for many animal species.

We look forward to seeing you on 31 January with an empty bottle of perfume in our office on ul. “Sava Radulov” 14 in Varna! The glass packaging will be recycled to save nature this eternal, non-biodegradable waste. And you can give a new life – to a fir tree or to an old precious book that you find and take from our library.

Trees are provided by Forests.bg and No Till Bulgaria and are while supplies last. We have a lot of books and all of them have been saved from destruction and put away in our office because of you, the Green Fridays participants.

Bring and recycle, take and save! We look forward to seeing you at Green Friday!

The Community Center for Environment and Sustainability is launching the Green Fridays initiative in late 2019. The best day to end the work week, do something good and “green”! We are collecting small glass bottles of cosmetics and perfumes, which until now ended their life path in the landfill. As a thank you, we are giving everyone who participated in the campaign, a second hand book of their choice. The participant, in turn, can leave a donation of BGN 2 or more to continue the initiative.
