One of the most impressive events within the Green Youth Academy project was held under the title “Meet the Bee Elen.” The event focused on the vital role of bees and the challenges facing their conservation.

Ecologist and beekeeper Ellen Sabatini was the speaker and inspirer of the event. Her stories about bees managed to capture the attention of the young participants, who were deeply impressed by the complex world of bees.

The demonstration lesson was structured to stimulate all the senses and provide direct access to the secrets of the bee family. The participants had the opportunity to peek into the hive. It was shown in detail what is contained and how a hive functions, revealing its complex arrangement and organization. The young people got to know the tools and equipment of the beekeeper up close. They also observed bees under a magnifying glass and used their senses to get to know different bee products (honey, pollen, wax), learning about their importance.

The enlarged three-dimensional model of the bee Ellen left a strong impression on the young people. This model with movable parts was specially created so that children and young people could study the anatomical structure of the bee interactively and in detail.

Helene Sabatini gave a demonstration lesson dedicated to:

The role of pollinators. The main emphasis was placed on the role of pollinators and the importance of beekeeping for biodiversity and the future of the Earth.
The life of the family. She presented the life cycle of the different types of bees in the hive, the organization and development of the bee family and its seasonal cycle.

The participants learned to distinguish between the types of bees and to understand how the bee’s body is structured.

The lecture concluded with an analysis of why bees are so important to humans, what the challenges are to their survival, and what everyone can do to protect them.

An additional element was the new acquisition of the project – special equipment that reproduces the authentic sounds that bees make when they are in the hive. This audio demonstration allowed the participants to immerse themselves even more deeply in the living atmosphere of the bee colony.
