At the annual civic forum “Conference on Democracy” the topic “Right to Nature” was presented – what is common between the many local civic protests in Bulgaria and the upcoming informal coalition around “Green Laws” and local initiative committees.
The lecture was presented by Vera Staevska from “Green Laws” – a civic initiative established in 2014 that monitors environmental legislation and fights for its improvement. The organization brings together experts in various fields such as energy, spatial planning and biodiversity. They conduct monitoring, analyse legislative changes and actively interact with institutions and citizens.
In recent years, Green Laws has stepped up its work on the ground, meeting with local civil society communities who are fighting to protect nature. This has led to a realisation of the need to bring together expert analysis with the real issues of people on the ground.
The Democracy Conference Forum showed that citizen-led conservation initiatives are active and growing. Combining expert capacity with local efforts gives hope for more effective results in environmental protection. If you are interested in the work of Green Laws and want to get involved in the initiatives, you can watch the full recording of the conference and contact the organizers.
