The Community Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development won funding from the Vivacom Regional Grant to educate young people in Varna about climate change and its impact on our lives. The En-ROADS climate simulator will be used for this purpose. The target group is high school students, teachers and experts from the inspectorate of the Ministry of Education. This was reported to ecovarna.info by Apostol Penkov, who represented the association during the award ceremony.

The main goal of the project “Simulator – stimulator” is to support the processes of knowledge and awareness of young people of their role and place in the processes of global warming. No matter what profession they choose and how they get on in life, they need to know that their decisions will have an impact on climate change.

In this year’s Vivacom Regional Grant Competition, 333 civil society organisations applied with 360 projects in the field of education and environmental protection. 14 of them received funding for their ideas with grants of up to BGN 5000.

The projects were evaluated by a jury composed of Elitsa Georgieva (Corporate Communications Director at Vivacom), Iva Doichinova (activist and journalist for civil causes), Ivan Kanchev (co-founder of the Bulgarian History Association), Raiko Baichev (journalist from the online media Actualno. com), Nadia Shabani (director of the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law) and Simona Stilianova (co-founder of Osnova and founder of Zero Waste Sofia).

Recall that Apostol Penkov translated the En-ROADS climate simulator into Bulgarian, which allows users to explore climate impacts using dozens of policies, including electrification of transport, carbon pricing, improved agricultural practices, and energy prices that affect global temperature, air quality, and sea level rise.
