A website for real-time alerts related to pollution and environmental incidents has been created by students from the Artificial Intelligence program at the Technical University of Varna. Through it, the user can be informed about problems with plastic and biological pollution in the sea and on land, fallen trees on the road, extreme weather conditions and more. In I See Sea anyone can submit an alert to inform other users about an environmental problem. To do this, they need to create their own account and report an environmental problem.

I See Sea enables all active citizens to report pollution and natural phenomena not only on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, but also globally. Most of the problem spots are currently from our Black Sea coast area, but there are already international alerts, for example from France and Portugal.

The app automatically determines your location, as well as that of the problem, if you have given consent for this in Google. You can upload a photo or make a description.

The state of the oceans and seas is extremely important for the overall health of the planet, says Stelijana Kaleva, a student at TU Varna. According to her, the more people are aware of environmental issues, the more they will care about the planet.

The I See Sea app has been developed under the ILIAD project, which has 56 international partner organisations in addition to the Technical University of Varna.

The mobile app was promoted in an unconventional way through an action for cleaning the beach “Pochivka” in Varna, which gathered not only students but also other active citizens. “Spring Clean 2025” was organized on the occasion of Earth Day and Citizen Science month with the support of the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development.
