On October 3, 2025, the Green Youth Academy project hosted an inspiring discussion with agronomist Kristiana Opreva, dedicated to one of the most important topics for every gardener—how to properly collect, store, and share seeds from our plants. The event brought together enthusiasts and lovers of ecological gardening, who participated with interest in discussions and practical demonstrations.

When and how to collect seeds correctly

In the first part of the meeting, agronomist Opreva drew attention to the right time to collect seeds, when the fruits are fully ripe and the plant has reached the end of its life cycle. She emphasized that the time of collection depends on the type of plant and climatic conditions, but the basic rule is: choose healthy plants and quality fruits to ensure good seeds. How to store and organize a personal collection

In the second part of the event, attention was focused on the organization of seeds. Agronomist Opreva gave useful advice on how to create a system for labeling, sorting, and storing seeds—in paper bags, glass jars, or special containers, in a cool, dry, and dark place.

The meeting discussed the topic of seed exchange between gardeners – a practice that not only enriches collections but also encourages community and sustainable agriculture.

The event proved that more and more people are willing to care for nature and apply sustainable practices in their daily lives. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity, inspiration, and a desire for action.

The Green Youth Academy project continues its mission to inspire and educate young people in the field of ecological and sustainable agriculture by creating a space for learning, sharing, and real action for the benefit of nature.
