We present you the first lecture of the annual civic forum Democracy Conference 2025, dedicated to the important topic of the restoration of the image of Musala Square in Varna.
Kalina Angelova Zhecheva, cultural manager of the Talyana Association, shares her vision for the future of the square. The organisation is actively working to revitalise the core of Varna by creating a creative quarter and turning Musala Square into a vibrant public space.
The square is currently occupied by a municipal car park, but the team’s aim is to turn it into a pedestrian area open for cultural and social events. A number of initiatives have already taken place there over the years, showing the potential of the place as a natural centre for meetings, art and civic discussion.
What did the square look like before? What is going to happen in May to take another step towards realising this vision? Watch the video and find out!
