The hardest reporting in life is what we miss while doing what we should.
The second exchange of ecolagers “Ezerets 2023” started on the last day of August. With an unusual alarm. A whole chorus of birds performs the most extraordinary serenade on Earth. (In autumn, the birds that could not find a mate sang.) Their song captivates and soothes. Because it reminds me that things happen when they are supposed to.
A smiling ray of sunlight creeps shyly through the ceiling of the tent. And says live “Good morning!”. You smile at him too. You rub your eyes. And you hear how a sonorous “Meow” creeps into the bird chorus like a violin string… To remind that someone is hungry.
Time for coffee and breakfast. Whatever you eat under the wooden shed, even if it’s just cheese and cucumber, is delicious. But when someone fries buns with spelled and maple syrup on the gas stove, you can’t help but lick your fingers.
And you have gathered so much strength that without hesitation you enter a pool of “cocoa milk”. You feel the soft mixture of water, clay and straw under your feet. You mix a wonderful plaster for the wall of a sunbathing with just your feet. (In this extraordinary bath, there is always as much hot water as the sun has given you today. But there is always enough for everyone.)
You think of the modern shower headset in the apartment, which reminds you when you overdo it with the amount and temperature of the water. You don’t need it here, because everything is enough for you.
You just don’t have enough time to go around the extensive beach of Ezerets without worrying about stepping on the towel of a beachgoer. To plunge the agitated sea. And do it yourself
a tower of pebbles on the sand. And then to discover a treasure – the most miniature and the most enormous rapan. To make a path out of seashells. And go for it. To get back to the tented camp on 17th Street.
The leavened kvass on wheat bread is waiting for you to knead it there. And to put it in the earth oven, which looks like a tire rim. You’ve hardly ever eaten anything tastier with patterned salt…
But the best thing about Ezerets warm bread is that you can share it with someone. Even the crickets know this, playing a nightly serenade together in front of the tent as your eyelids close.
The hardest reporting in life is what we miss while doing what we should.
If you decide to drive where your heart points, “Ezerets 2024” awaits you. Next year, in August, for the 15th time in a row…
