An objection to increase the capacity of the waste incineration plant in Devnya was filed by Breathe, Devnya Association at the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) – Varna, and the Municipality of Devnya. The investment proposal  about “increasing the capacity of the hazardous and non-hazardous waste planned for incineration in the thermal treatment plant, inclusion of new waste codes” was submitted by EcoSef Ltd. last year. The proposal regards up to 9.8 tonnes / day of hazardous waste and 66 tonnes / day of non-hazardous waste, including new types of combustion wastes containing petroleum products, asbestos, hazardous substances, sludges, oil filters, brake and antifreeze liquids.

“There are enough production sites and waste in the territory of the Municipality of Devnya,” the civil organization states. The document also said that the mobile installation was built very close to residential area.

In August 2018 the residents of Devnya expressed their disagreement by signing up for the construction of a mobile installation for thermal treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. However, the company received a permit and the same year generated revenues of more than BGN 1 million.

The company has a pledge of a trading company against a loan of BGN 2.66 million from the bank of Tsvetelina Borislavova. The company is property of Sofia’s Perfect Property Portfolio Ltd., whose sole owner, according to the Commercial Register, is 22-year-old Simona Prodanova.

“We, the citizens of Devnya, have the right to healthy living conditions and a future for our children. We strongly object to the realization of this investment intent and will take all legal actions, “the Breathe objection states.
