The “Annual Civil Forum – Conference on Democracy” has been taking place every year since 2013, on the last weekend of February. The forum has been initiated and aided financially by architect Kalina Miteva Pavlova. It has been conceived as a platform for the presentation of various activities, which support the values of democracy, as well as to facilitate the organization of debates on the implementation of democratic practices. The forum is open to everyone.
We started this annual event, provoked by the February protests in 2013. At that time the high electricity bills gave rise to brave and open criticism towards the undemocratic governing of the country, deeply entwined with unhealthy private and monopolistic business interests. The protests ended in tragedy with the death of Plamen Goranov, who put himself on fire in front of the building of the city council.
